I need a weekend to recover from my weekend. Friday night B and I went out for dinner. We had Tapas at a "modern spanish" restaurant. What they mean by "modern spanish" is that they forget to turn your order into the kitchen so you have to sip your mojito for over an hour, chewing on the mint to feel nourished. Then they say they're going to give you free desert but only give you a free mojito instead. Guess what? Brian hated this restaurant. I say the potatoes were so good I'm giving it another chance.
Then Saturday morning I woke up early and went for a run...oh yes, you heard me right. It killed. Going uphill when you're out of shape is not fun. But it was a beautiful morning and the our neighborhood is the shit. Then after some much needed TV time B and I went to Home Depot. It sucked. But we came away with a hummingbird feeder, a grill, an umbrella for our table and some cacti. When we got home Brian put together the grill and rearranged the patio furniture and I went to the grocery store. Then my dad and Debra came over. We had some beers on the back patio. They brought over a bride and groom beanie baby and a baby carriage candle. After they left Dan, Cesca and Sonny came over a for dinner. We grilled and ate outside. It was nice. I'm looking forward to warm weather. After dinner Brian, Sonny and I went to Star Shoes on Hollywood Blvd. You guys should have seen Brian breakdancing...
On Sunday morning Sonny and I watched Don't Tell Mom the Babysitters Dead, a fine piece of American cinema. Swell is so awesome!! Then Brian woke up and we headed over to Roscoe's. Not my kind of place. I don't think I'll be indulging in any waffles again. After breakfast the Asbury's came over and we went to Olvera Street. Jacqueline got a laser pointer with four different laser patterns. When they have the baby she can laser point "i love you" on the wall. It will be really fun. At lunch I called dibs on babysitting Little Asbury when they go to Ken's work Christmas party on Dec. 15. I can't wait!!!
Needless to say... it was really hard to wake up this morning. I'm tired. Tomorrow I leave for Portland/Seattle. good times...

Help me, Bruce Willis.
Oliver came to visit us last weekend. It was good times. I love hanging out with my future brother-in-law. But I do have a bone to pick with him.
As you all know Brian and I have an obsession with Armageddon. It was the cause of great depression last summer. I even cut back on my news reading because I would start crying every morning at work while obsessing over NY Times or Google news. Brian and I try not to talk about the end of the world at home, though we both no it is coming and we're all doomed...but at least we're in it together, right? So on Sunday while I was making a snack for Ollie and Brian somehow the green kid brought up our eventual end. It was all we could talk about for awhile. All three of us would stop in the middle of a sentence and say "wait, I don't want to talk about this. let's stop." Then five seconds later we would start all over again.
And now it's been on my mind all week. Last night I asked Brian what he thought the college tuition for our kids would be. In my head I thought "well if they're still around in time for college" but I didn't say it out loud because that's depressing. Brian's reply to my question, "Do you think the world will last to see our kids in college?" See we even think about the death of our unborn children. It sucks... GET OUT OF MY HEAD.
So this is my pledge to you, B to the Z. No more talk of Armageddon. No more thinking about the end of the world. Just be happy and thankful for what you have today. When the world ends you will have lived a very
privileged and full life.
on a happy note... Brian and I are all booked and ready to go to Kauai for our honeymoon.

why my car kicks ass:
When I lived in Long Beach I drove 60 miles a day going to and from work. The 710 is fairly flat so I would average about 52mpg in my Prius. Which is AWESOME!!! Since moving to Pasadena my average has been 46mpg...crappy! It's because I drive uphill on my way home from work. Pasadena is not on sea level...remember Brian made me move away from the ocean? In fact there are some pretty large mountains only a few miles from our house. (Brian and I are getting used to the San Gabriels. My love for them is growing and I think Brian is completely hooked. We're looking forward to some hiking in the spring. Who wants to join us?)
Anyway, my MPGs have been crappy. Everytime I fill up my average mpg resets, so it's usually pretty good the first couple of miles you drive. Today I got gas first thing in the morning and then drove in downhill in traffic. And guess what my average mpgs were?

Tuesdays are Geishariffic!
Yesterday was so long. Like forever long. I'm hoping today is not the same. Though it is 10:21, I've been here less than an hour, and it feels like I haven't moved since yesterday. I'm busy, it's not like I'm sitting here doing nothing. Though nothing would be better. I hate weeks like this.
And today didn't start off that well. That's actually a lie. It started off great. I made strawberries and toast (in our new fancy toaster oven. thanks, mother-in-law). I sat at our dining room table, eating breakfast, drinking coffee and reading Paste. It was nice. Then I had to leave the house and go to the OBGYN. That's where the day went sour.
But things are looking up... I've just read a geishariffic story on Mcsweeneys. It's funny. Read it. "My geisha knows that if she wants to be a part of my life, then she needs to accept that game consoles are a major passion of mine. "
