George hid inbetween the shower curtains the whole time the movers were unloading everything in our place. It was really cute.

To Dotty Mo
Tomorrow is my Nana's funeral. My mom's mom, her best friend and her last parent died a week ago. She was 88. My Nana was an amazing lady. She was full of life, funny, curious and friendly. We went up to see her in San Jose for Easter. I was so excited to tell her that Brian and I were moving to New York. Like my mom loves to say, my Nana got engaged in New York, married in New York and watched her husband pass away in New York. Nana told us all sorts of stories about being young in the city. It was cool. She was so excited for us.
We are getting on a train headed to Short Hills tomorrow morning. I will stand by my mom's side as she buries her mother. I hope that my mom and I have half the relationship that she has with her mother. And I hope that I can be with her until the day she passes just as my mom was with Nana.

unpacking the kitchen.
Good news.... this is all cleaned up and put away now. We actually made dinner last night. And when I say "we" I mean me, Brian's personal chef. He did the dishes though.

Well our stuff made it. Our apartment is full of boxes. Brian and I have no idea how we have so much crap. We feel like we got rid of most everything before the move, but we have boxes everywhere! Oh, and one minor detail...our couch won't fit through the front door. It's in the hallway. Brian and I have to take the front door off tonight. Fun times...

Top of the World
This morning I met up with Anna, my old roommate from Davis, at Penn Station. We saw each other on Sunday for the first time in about 6 years, so it was a lot of fun to spend some time alone today. I really don't know where to take people in the city. I'm a tourist myself. But I do know where to get yummy desert...
We walked from Penn to Magnolia Bakery in the West Village. We got cupcakes for breakfast, ate in the little park and talked. Then we walked down to West 4th and decided to head up 6th Ave to the Empire State Building. Anna had never been to the top, so we gave it a shot. It was totally random and fun! We walked around the observatory, then had lunch in Bryant Park. It was a great morning!

I heart my mommy
My mom and I have a really funny relationship. We're super close, but I feel like when we talk on the phone we don't really listen to each other. It's more like we want to hear each other's voices and feel comfortable ranting to one another. But since I've moved across the country I feel like we finally listen to one another. Sure, we have those meaningless "i miss you and just want to hear your voice" calls, but our real conversations have substance. We listen to each other and talk back and forth about the same topic. Not sure if you know us, but Judy and I have a tendency to ramble. So knowing that the two of us can actually have a coherent conversation is a big deal. We talk about feelings and tell stories with a connection.
So bottom line...I love my mom. I miss her and I'm happy that I can talk to her everyday. Thank you, Alexander Graham Bell.

color in our lives
So Brian and I got off our lazy asses and actually painted our apartment this weekend. This is a big step for us. We went to Home Depot, bought paint and supplies, then went directly home to paint. In our old life we would have delayed the actual act of painting for about a year. Even if we had the paint sitting in our apt. The one thing we forgot to buy...a ladder. Which means that I was on Brian's shoulders painting the ceiling edges...good times.
Though we did want to paint the whole place, we decided to leave the majority of the walls white. At least we are honest with ourselves, knowing that there is no way in hell we would want to paint more than two walls. So we painted the wall that connects the livingroom and bedroom. It's a pretty sagey, armyish green. I like it a lot. Here's some pics...

The Sopranos
Brian and I started watching The Sopranos in March. We started with Season 1 and now are on Season 5. So, needless to say, we're not ready for the series finale. Can I tell you how hard it was to sit on the train on the way to work after the finale last night? Everyone has a Post or a NY Daily News covered with The Sopranos. I don't want to know what happened. Then I get to work and the internet is littered with it...WTF!!!! We need to start plowing through the episodes because I don't know how much longer we can avoid the news.

chillin on my legs
George likes to lie on top of our legs. It's real comfy. Oh, and while you're at it...check out our hot entertainment system in the back. Only the best for this New Yorker.

his new home
Here George is in our bedroom window. I think it's his favorite one. But right now he's hiding in the closet with my clothes. I can't wait till our stuff gets here and he feels more comfortable.
