So it's like summer outside. 48 degrees. We are even thinking of drinking outside.

Okay so I saw a blind guy cleaning up his dog's poop the other night. I thought this was interesting for a couple of reasons:

1. the dog went to the bathroom in the gutter. Do they train them to do this? And if so, then it's probably because that way their owner wouldn't necessarily be obligated to clean it up. But then why did this guy? Is it just because he's a good Samaritan?
2. the guy had to move his hand around the floor, through some nasty snow to get the poop. Now did the dog direct the guy to the poop so that he would know where to pick it up? And that would negate number one because then obviously they train the dogs to point out their poop.
3. also can't the guy just get a break. I mean he's blind. Does he really have to wade his hand through dirty snow in the gutter to clean up after his dog?

So I've been thinking about this for the past couple of days. There is a community of blind people in our neighborhood but this is the first time I've ever seen one clean up after their dog. Granted most of them just use walking sticks and don't have dogs. Then last I read an article in NY Magazine about a girl with Usher Syndrome. She is going deaf and blind and talks about living in NY. She kept saying that you deal with the cards you're dealt and try to live a normal life. And that made me think of the guys cleaning up the poop. Maybe he does it because that's what you're supposed to do when you own a dog, that's the normal thing. My favorite part of the article is at the end:
While she hails a cab on the corner, I tell her about a poll that says Americans are more afraid of blindness than of AIDS, cancer, and heart attacks. She looks dumbstruck. “Cancer? For real? I don’t get that. Really, it’s not that bad.”

Brian and I have to move in 4 months! I hate moving! HATE IT! I've already started looking at apartments just to see what's out there. And last night I couldn't sleep so I stayed up thinking about how much junk we have and need to get rid of. I'm going to start that soon. When we left Pasadena we had a big garage sale, but you really can't do that here. So do we donate stuff? Just throw it away? Or sell it on Craig's List? Not only do you have to get rid of a bunch of stuff when you move, but you need to buy new stuff. We need a new bookshelf (our Ikea one isn't doing so well) and a new tv stand (Brian broke the one we have now). Maybe we can rent a car one day and go cheap furniture/thrift shopping in Long Island or something. I know that sounds like something that Brian would be totally interested in doing. HA!

Moving is so expensive. And annoying. And exhausting.

I'm so over the winter...

So with Brian gone this week I had all these plans to clean and organize our apartment. Turns out that didn't happen. I was so lonely and lazy this week that I just quilted and knitted and hung out with George. It was actually pretty awesome and relaxing. This weekend has to be productive though. I can't let Brian come home to a messy, unorganized, lazy house. So my plan is to put stuff on ebay, clean (obviously), shred old stuff, and maybe, just maybe, clean out the junk closet. We'll see how that all goes, but my ambitions are true. Oh and I'm gonna go to the gym. And bake for Superbowl Sunday.

Oh, and another thing, it just started snowing out of the blue and I'm in converse. Awesome! I probably should have checked the weather before I left and not relied on the fact that it was sunny.

Also, I can't wait for Brian to come home on Sunday.

George helps me quilt

George helps me quilt, originally uploaded by b to the z.

So you can see here how very helpful George is while I'm quilting. He just goes right on ahead and fixes my perfectly straight quilt that's all ready to be pinned. No big deal, I just have to redo everything tonight. Good job, George!

So Brian is gone for a week and goddamnit I miss him. George misses him, too. I can tell.
